How to incubate quail

Incubating quail can be a fun learning experience,  quail are an awesome bird to raise even if you have no experience, we all have to start somewhere!  We started this,  all because a ten year old little girl talked her papa into getting her some eggs to hatch and raise at our farm, and you know papas cant say no!  From there we have all become addicted to raising these birds!  Below you will find our method of incubating which has yielded great hatch rates.

How to hatch quail step by step!

1- Set up incubator a day before and turn on to stabilize your humidity and temperature.

Temp- 99.5

Humidity- 40%-50%

IF EGGS WERE SHIPPED, LET THEM REST AT ROOM TEMPURATURE, POINTED SIDE DOWN FOR 24 HOURS WHILE INCUBATOR STABILIZES

2- Put eggs in egg tray, pointed side down and place in incubator.

3- If you have an automatic egg turner on your incubator, make sure it is on.  If not, make sure to turn your eggs 4 times a day.

4- Incubate for 14 days this way, maintaining temperature and humidity.

5- On the 14th day, you can candle them to check development, and remove any undeveloped eggs.

6- On the 14th day after candling, you can put them in "lockdown" this is when you turn off the egg turner/ move them to a hatch bin.  Raise your humidity to 70%-80%.  and DO NOT OPEN

7- Hatching generally happens around days 17-19.  Leave the chicks in there until they are dry and fluffy before you move them to a prepared brooder!

8- Keep chicks in a brooder from 3-4 weeks until they are fully feathered.  Brooder should be 90-100 degrees for the first 3 weeks. Coturnix quail will be ready to give you more eggs to eat or repeat the process at about 6 weeks!
